Cigar Club Raises Nearly $6000 Dollars To Support The Arts

Executive Director Jim Barber was excited when the Branson Regional Arts Council’s had been selected as this year’s recipient of proceeds raised from the Sporting Clays for the Arts Event held last March 2022. The fundraising event presented by Embers Cigar Lounge at the Branson Landing raised a total of $5,812.00 for the Arts Council.

Branson’s locally owned Cigar Shop Embers Cigar Lounge started a cigar club in 2020, “eMbers Only Cigar Club” with a goal of giving and  supporting locally owned charitable organizations who work hard to bring value to the local community. 

“We are very excited about our participation in the Sporting Clay Shoot to support the Branson Regional Arts Council,” Tom Forster, Club Chairman, explains.  “As a group we feel strongly that by involving folks of all ages, especially the young, to become involved in the arts, we can introduce lifelong passions that only add to our amazing culture right here in the Ozarks,” said Forster.  “Our community is blessed to have business owners like Kevin and Betsy McConnell who support the club’s passion to create charitable events for the Branson area,” he added.

Though the proceeds were immediately presented to the Arts Council after the event in March, a formal check presentation occured at the Embers Cigar Lounge on May 17th with several members of the club in attendance.

Event sponsors who donated to the fundraising event included: Reece Nichols Real Estate – RPT Homes LLC (Event Sponsor), Show Me Flooring, Embers Cigar Lounge, Branson Imax Entertainment Complex, Branson Screen Printing, Starvin Marvin’s Restaurant, Outraged Rage Room, Weathered Oak LLC, The Tracks, Connell Insurance, Myers Hospitality, Clay Cooper Theatre, and American Exposition LLC.

“I wish to thank everyone involved in this fundraising event, from those who registered to participate as shooters, to the generous area business leaders who gave of their resources to benefit the important work being done by the Arts Council,” said Barber. “Special appreciation to Kevin and Betsy McConnell and Tom Forster for sharing my appreciation of just how vital a thriving arts education program is to the future growth and esteem of young people in our community,” he added.

Little Women The Musical Opens May 12 At Historic Owen Theatre

In one of the most anticipated main stage productions of the year, the Branson Regional Arts Council is proud to present Little Women – The Musical at the Historic Owen Theatre in downtown Branson!

Performances are on Thursdays (7pm), Sundays (2pm & 7pm) and Mondays (7pm) from May 12 – 23, 2022.

Seating is limited and advance reserved tickets are encouraged at BransonArts.org/tix or by calling the Historic Owen Theatre box office at 417-336-4255. Admission for everyone is locally priced at $17 (Adults 18+), $14 (Youth 4-17). The production is great fun for all ages and is rated PG.

Under the direction of Justin Ables, Little Women – The Musical is based on famed author Louisa May Alcott’s life. The live stage production follows the adventures of sisters, Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy March. Jo is trying to sell her stories for publication, but the publishers are not interested – her friend, Professor Bhaer, tells her that she has to do better and write more from herself. Begrudgingly taking this advice, Jo weaves the story of herself and her sisters and their experience growing up in Civil War America.

Produced nationally and internationally, Little Women has been praised by critics for its ambition in adapting such a well-known story for the stage. This timeless, captivating story is brought to life on the Historic Owen Theatre stage in this glorious musical filled with personal discovery, heartache, hope and everlasting love. The original production starred the unparalleled Sutton Foster, who received Tony, Outer Critics Circle and Drama Desk nominations for her performance.

Branson Convention Center New Artist Reception Friday April 29th

The Branson Regional Arts Council invites the public to attend a FREE Community Arts Event on Friday, April 29, 2022 from 6-8pm at the Branson Convention Center Art Gallery on the 2nd level concourse.

Join in celebration of 14 area artists, featuring all new works now on display at the gallery. Featured artists include: Meike Aton, Diana Bogardus, Audrey Bottrell-Parks, Lana Braden, Lee Copen, Jessica Gambino, Dee Giles, Brent Holland, Lynnette Horn, Jenny Mayor, Gayle Page, Gary Parks, Terena Terry and Norma Wiedmeyer.

This will be an evening of incredible artistry, as we introduce several new artists joining the Art Gallery Exhibition. Several of the featured artists will be attending the reception to discuss their work, and members of the Branson Regional Arts Council Board will be there to answer any questions.

2022 BRAC Summer Youth Theatre Institute Open For Registrations

The 2022 BRAC Summer Youth Theatre Institute is now accepting students for it’s production of Disney’s Beauty and The Beast, Jr.

Register your child (ages 6-18) to experience the Branson Regional Arts Council’s exciting summer theatre camp at the Historic Owen Theatre in Branson. The theme is Beauty and The Beast Jr., with classes on Monday thru Friday, 8:00am – 12:00pm from June 6th thru June 26th. There will be a initial parent/student meeting on Friday, June 3rd from 6pm-7pm.

No auditions or previous experience required to participate!

Tuition for the entire session, including performances is $135 per student.

Based on the original Broadway production that ran for over thirteen years and was nominated for nine Tony Awards, and the Academy Award-winning motion picture, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast JR. is a fantastic adaptation of the story of transformation and tolerance. Disney’s Beauty and the Beast JR. features some of the most popular songs ever written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, along with new songs by Mr. Menken and Tim Rice.
The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed to his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.

Autism Acceptance Month Features Pratt The Movie

In honor of April’s Autism Acceptance Month, the Branson Regional Arts Council is proud to present a public showing of a very special digital film entitled, “Pratt The Movie.”

This free community event is on Sunday, April 24, 2022 at 2pm at the Historic Owen Theatre, 205 S. Commercial St. in downtown Branson.

The movie was written, produced and directed by an exceptionally talented young man, Dylan Pratt, a twenty-six year old resident of Branson.  Dylan is a long-time Arts Council volunteer and has performed in several BRAC musicals and events at the Historic Owen Theatre including Anything Goes, Miracle On 34th Street, Beauty & The Beast, Seven Brides For Seven Brothers, The Wizard Of Oz, The Odd Couple, and The Sound Of Music.  In the movie, he documents his journey from being diagnosed, at the age of two, with both Tourette’s Syndrome and high functioning Autism, to his recent desires to fulfill his dream of becoming a full-time actor.

Dylan didn’t realize he had a disability until the age of 15, when he was put in psychiatric care for the many struggles and difficulties he was having throughout his life. After receiving treatment for his condition, and through the support of a Christian school and group home, he was able to turn around his problems and is now well on his way to making his dreams come true.

In 2018, the Branson Regional Arts Council hosted a premiere public showing of Dylan’s film at the Historic Owen Theatre. At that time our Board of Directors had already begun the process of developing a “Special Abilities” educational program to provide opportunities in the arts for young people in our community such as Dylan. The pandemic of 2020-2021 put the brakes on our ability to implement this new program, but we are now at a point where we can once again move forward with those plans. As April is Autism Acceptance and Awareness Month, we are excited to once again feature Dylan through this showing of his newly edited and updated film.

Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. According to the Centers for Disease Control, autism affects an estimated 1 in 44 children in the United States today.

There is not one autism but many subtypes, most influenced by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Because autism is a spectrum disorder, each person with autism has a distinct set of strengths and challenges. The ways in which people with autism learn, think and problem-solve can range from highly skilled to severely challenged. Some people with ASD may require significant support in their daily lives, while others may need less support and, in some cases, live entirely independently.

“Today and every day, we honor autistic people and celebrate the meaningful and measureless ways they contribute to our Nation.  We applaud the millions of educators, advocates, family members, caregivers, and others who support them.  As we continue to build a better America, we reaffirm our promise to provide Americans with autism the support they need to live independently, fully participate in their communities, and lead fulfilling lives of dignity and respect.”

Dylan wants to share his true, life story with anyone who would be interested in attending, and he will be on hand to personally welcome the audience and answer questions.

As this is a free event, no tickets are necessary to attend. Any donations will support the BRAC “Special Abilities” program.

Audience members are encouraged at arrive approximately 1:30pm for the 2:00pm showtime.  The movie is approximately 80 minutes in length, and features not only Dylan Pratt, but also Branson area entertainers Carrie Orlando, Dennis Pratt, Bobby Allynn, Jim Barber and Terry Wayne Sanders.

Godspell Musical Opens March 31 At Historic Owen Theatre

The Branson Regional Arts Council proudly presents the immensely successful rock opera, Godspell, at the Historic Owen Theatre from March 31 – April 10, 2022. Performances are at 7:00 pm with 2:00 pm Matinees on Sundays. This promises to be an inspiring and entertaining production for all ages!

Based on the Gospel according to St Matthew, Godspell is the story of a small group of people help Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a wide variety of games, storytelling techniques and a hefty dose of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, is employed as the story of Jesus’ life dances across the stage. Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, Jesus’ messages of kindness, tolerance and love come vibrantly to life.

Godspell was the first major musical theatre offering from three-time Grammy and Academy Award winner, Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, Children of Eden); and it took the world by storm. Led by the international hit, “Day by Day,” Godspell features a parade of beloved songs, including “Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord,” “Learn Your Lessons Well,” “All for the Best,” “All Good Gifts,” “Turn Back, O Man” and “By My Side.”

The BRAC production is directed by Jeremiah Reeve with musical director Kyle Denton. Choreography is provided by Jacob Deck.

The cast features Christian Ross (Jesus) and Alex Harris (Judas), along with Heather Stolfa, Haley Moore-Haskin, Sonya Godfrey, Claire Denton, Jacob Deck, Kayleigh Dominish, Katy Kohler, Loran Polson, Abby Reeve and Taryn Huffman.

March 24th Volunteer Rally At Historic Owen Theatre

Join us at the Historic Owen Theatre for an informational “Volunteer Rally” and find out how you can be an active participant in the Branson Regional Arts Council. We have a full slate of amazing events this year, and are looking for enthusiastic folks who love their community, and LOVE TO HAVE FUN!

When: Thursday, March 24, 2022 from 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm

What are your areas of interest? 

GUEST SERVICES
Greet our theatre patrons as they arrive for a production. Hand out our official Playbill programs, and assist with seating locations or other needs.

CONCESSION STAND VOLUNTEERS
Assist our patrons by serving up fresh popcorn, sweet treats and beverages from our historic concession stand before the show and during intermission. Duties include cashier, product display, popcorn making, cleaning, sanitization, and inventory tracking. BRAC will assist qualified food handlers in obtaining their required ServSafe Certification at our expense.

SET CONSTRUCTION, COSTUME & PROP BUILDING
Work behind the scenes to help build stage sets, props and costumes for upcoming productions. Previous experience not required, but is certainly beneficial.

CLEANING & SANITIZING
One of our most important volunteer positions… our cleaning crews sweep and vacuum the theatre after each performance, wipe down touchable surfaces in public areas with sanitized towelettes, remove all trash to the outside dumpsters.

STREET TEAM MARKETING
Help us connect to our community and spread the great news about our upcoming events and theatrical productions! We will provide the posters or flyers, and you will help us distribute them to participating locations in and around our community

Auditions For Little Women The Musical Announced

The Branson Regional Arts Council announces open auditions for Little Women – The Musical.

This production is for actors age 18 and over and will be directed by Justin Ables.

Auditions: Sunday, March 13, 2022 @ 3:00pm
Callbacks: Monday, March 14th (time TBD)
Location: Historic Owen Theatre

Please prepare a 32 bar track of your choosing, whether from the show or in the same style. No side or monologue is needed for auditions.
Please bring a track to be played via Bluetooth as there will not be an accompanist at auditions.

The first rehearsal will occur on Monday, March 28th with all following rehearsals taking place on Monday evenings from 5:00-10:00 and Tuesday-Friday mornings from 10:00-1:00.

List of Characters:

(The roles of Aunt March and Mrs. Kirk will be played by the same actress. There will be no ensemble or minor actors in this adaptation.)

Jo March – Our story’s protagonist. A Passionate and determined young author struggling to find her place in the world. She has the idea of writing Little Women and eventually becomes engaged to Professor Bhaer.

Amy March – The youngest, most energetic sister with a rather pompous air about her. She later marries Laurie. Doubles as the troll in the operatic tragedy.

Meg March – The world-weary, yet hopeful, oldest sister who yearns for a great life. She marries John and has twins with him. Doubles as Clarissa in the operatic tragedy.

Beth March – The second youngest of the sisters. Timid and musical, Beth encourages and helps her sisters selflessly. Forms an unlikely friendship with the crotchety Mr Laurence. Doubles as Rodrigo II in the operatic tragedy.

Marmee March – The March girls’ mother. She is the strong backbone of the family, who is courageous in spite of the difficult odds she faces. Doubles as the hag in the operatic tragedy.

Aunt March – A formidable, over-bearing matron and great-aunt to the March sisters. The wealthy socialite in town.

Theodore ‘Laurie’ Laurence – Lonely and charming boy next door who becomes firm friends with the March family. Proposes to Jo but eventually falls in love with and marries Amy. Doubles as Rodrigo in the operatic tragedy.

John Brooke – Laurie’s tutor. A reserved and hard-working young man who only shows his tender side when he falls in love with Meg. Doubles as Braxton Prendergast in the operatic tragedy.

Professor Bhaer – A sensible German professor boarding with Mrs Kirk. Persuades Jo that she is better than the “blood and guts stuff” she writes. Falls in love with, and eventually becomes engaged to Jo.

Mr. Laurence – Laurie’s grandfather. A stiff and stern elderly man who eventually shows his softer side and becomes friends with Beth.

Mrs. Kirk – The Irish owner of the boarding house in which Professor Bhaer and Jo meet.

Produced nationally and internationally, Little Women has been praised by critics for its ambition in adapting such a well-known story for the stage. This timeless, captivating story is brought to life in this glorious musical filled with personal discovery, heartache, hope and everlasting love. The original production starred the unparalleled Sutton Foster, who received Tony, Outer Critics Circle and Drama Desk nominations for her performance.
Based on Louisa May Alcott’s life, Little Women follows the adventures of sisters, Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy March. Jo is trying to sell her stories for publication, but the publishers are not interested – her friend, Professor Bhaer, tells her that she has to do better and write more from herself. Begrudgingly taking this advice, Jo weaves the story of herself and her sisters and their experience growing up in Civil War America.

The Branson Regional Arts Council is excited to announce that it has been selected as this year’s recipient of proceeds raised at the upcoming Sporting Clays for the Arts Event on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Ozark Shooters Sports Complex on Highway 65 just North of Branson. This annual fundraising event is presented by Embers Cigar Lounge at the Branson Landing.

Branson’s locally owned Cigar Shop Embers Cigar Lounge started a cigar club in 2020, “eMbers Only Cigar Club” with a goal of giving and  supporting locally owned charitable organizations who work hard to bring value to the local community.

“We are very excited about our upcoming Sporting Clay Shoot to support the Branson Regional Arts Council,” Tom Forster, Club Chairman, explains.  “As a group we feel strongly that by involving folks of all ages, especially the young, to become involved in the arts, we can introduce lifelong passions that only add to our amazing culture right here in the Ozarks,” said Forster.  “Our community is blessed to have business owners like Kevin and Betsy McConnell who support the club’s passion to create charitable events for the Branson area,” he added.
