See 10 Exciting Plays That Are Each 10 Minutes in Length on July 10th!

The Branson Regional Arts Council presents the first annual 10-Minute Play Series at the Historic Owen Theatre this Sunday, July 10th at 7pm. The 10-10-10 will encourage local writers and directors of all skill and experience levels to practice their art in a low-stakes, low-commitment, safe environment.

The evening will consist of ten plays lasting no longer than 10 minutes each, with a variety of styles presented. Plays include a contemporary comedy and drama, a fantasy, a surrealist piece, a silent film-style play, 2 classical plays—one being a George Bernard Shaw excerpt and the other, a play written by Benjamin Franklin, and more.

Kyle Blanchard is the inspiration behind this new event, and is also participating as one of the directors.

“This year, the directors and plays were chosen ahead-of-time from locals that displayed interest, but in the future anyone will be able to submit their play and/or submit to direct.

Writers and Directors will be chosen on a first-come basis with no regard to experience!”

Admission is free, but a $10 donation at the door would be appreciated to benefit BRAC’s Arts Education Program providing training and arts opportunities in theatre, music, vocal, dance, technical production and the visual arts for area residents of all ages.

Seating is limited, so come when the doors open at 6:30 to ensure you have a seat!

There will be a ten-minute intermission and concessions will be available for purchase. A Talkback session will follow the play presentations for audience reaction and questions.

All plays are rated PG or PG-13. There is some mild adult language and violence.

This year the directors include: Kyle Blanchard, Ellie Faggion, Michael Phillips, Ryan Hippe, Joey Faggion, Megan King, Cole Litwiller, Jonah Outhouse, and Josh Boulden (directing 2 plays).

The technical team include: Pamela Meadows, Mac Hill, Sarah Briggs and Tori Hurley.

The selected plays include:

PEARL’S BIG DAY – Written and Directed by Michael Phillips. Featuring Deanna Bruce, Cat Faggion, Ian lahlum, Michael Sager, Addison Montgumrey, Aaron Munn, Chris Skillern,Kahrie Stegman and Michael Phillips.

GASLIGHT – Written and Directed by Kyle Blanchard. Starring Josiah Mayer, Jonathan Crum, Megan King and Mariah Garrett

MAN AND SUPERMAN by George Bernard Shaw – Directed by Josh Boulden. Starring Ashlind Hippie, Natalie Hensarling, and Jameson Clanton.

UNSPOKEN – Written and Directed by Jonah Outhouse. Starring Jason Lightfoot and Andy Brown.

WHILE THE AUTO WAITS – Adapted and Directed by Megan King. Starring Jonathan Crum, Ashlind Hippe, Andy Brown and Nicole Horton

Open Auditions For Hello Dolly! At Historic Owen Theatre

Cast auditions for the Branson Regional Arts Council production of Hello Dolly! will be held Saturday, July 16 at the Historic Owen Theatre in downtown Branson, and Saturday July 23 at 2pm and 6pm at Dance Branson, 4440 N. Gretna in The Shoppes at Branson Meadows (suite 4440). Actors may attend the audition time that works best for them. The musical is directed by Jake Deck.

We are looking for cast members ages 13 and up!

  • Prepare a 60 second cut of a musical theatre song that shows off your range and acting skills.
  • Please bring an mp3 track or youtube karaoke track. NO A CAPPELLA auditions.
  • There will also be a dance audition. Please come dressed accordingly. Wear appropriate clothing and footwear you are comfortable moving in. (A character or jazz shoe is preferred.)

This musical adaptation of Thornton Wilder’s hit play The Matchmaker bursts with humor, romance, energetic dance and some of the greatest songs in musical theatre history. The romantic and comic exploits of Dolly Gallagher-Levi, turn-of-the-century matchmaker and “woman who arranges things,” are certain to thrill and entertain audiences again and again. Rated G.

Beauty and The Beast JR opens at Historic Owen Theatre

A “tale as old as time,” will be presented on the stage of the Historic Owen Theatre in downtown Branson as Disney’s Beauty and The Beast JR. opens for six public performances from Thursday through Saturday, June 23 – 26, 2022.

Summer Institute Students Having A Blast – Photo by Marshall Meadows

The Branson Regional Arts Council’s Summer Youth Theatre Institute production features a large group of 71 talented young actors between the ages of 6-18, who have been training for nearly three weeks to present this family favorite musical. Divided into two casts, they will be creating unforgettable memories that will not only improve their talents and self esteem, but also carry through positive qualities to other aspects of their lives.

Based on the original Broadway production that ran for over thirteen years and was nominated for nine Tony Awards, and the Academy Award-winning motion picture, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast JR. is a fantastic adaptation of the story of transformation and tolerance. Disney’s Beauty and the Beast JR. features some of the most popular songs ever written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, along with new songs by Mr. Menken and Tim Rice.

The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed to his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.

Little Women The Musical Opens May 12 At Historic Owen Theatre

In one of the most anticipated main stage productions of the year, the Branson Regional Arts Council is proud to present Little Women – The Musical at the Historic Owen Theatre in downtown Branson!

Performances are on Thursdays (7pm), Sundays (2pm & 7pm) and Mondays (7pm) from May 12 – 23, 2022.

Seating is limited and advance reserved tickets are encouraged at BransonArts.org/tix or by calling the Historic Owen Theatre box office at 417-336-4255. Admission for everyone is locally priced at $17 (Adults 18+), $14 (Youth 4-17). The production is great fun for all ages and is rated PG.

Under the direction of Justin Ables, Little Women – The Musical is based on famed author Louisa May Alcott’s life. The live stage production follows the adventures of sisters, Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy March. Jo is trying to sell her stories for publication, but the publishers are not interested – her friend, Professor Bhaer, tells her that she has to do better and write more from herself. Begrudgingly taking this advice, Jo weaves the story of herself and her sisters and their experience growing up in Civil War America.

Produced nationally and internationally, Little Women has been praised by critics for its ambition in adapting such a well-known story for the stage. This timeless, captivating story is brought to life on the Historic Owen Theatre stage in this glorious musical filled with personal discovery, heartache, hope and everlasting love. The original production starred the unparalleled Sutton Foster, who received Tony, Outer Critics Circle and Drama Desk nominations for her performance.

Show Synopsis:
Set in the 1590s, brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are desperate to write a hit play but are stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rock star known as “The Bard.” When a local soothsayer foretells that the future of theatre involves singing, dancing and acting at the same time, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world’s very first musical. But amidst the scandalous excitement of opening night, the Bottom Brothers realize that reaching the top means being true to thine own self, and all that jazz. Something Rotten features large song and dance numbers, and a wacky cast of over-the-top characters, each given his or her own special moment in the show to shine. It’s become clear that “nothing’s as amazing as a musical,” so don’t miss your chance to be a part of this history-twisting tale on the BRAC stage!

2022 BRAC Summer Youth Theatre Institute Open For Registrations

The 2022 BRAC Summer Youth Theatre Institute is now accepting students for it’s production of Disney’s Beauty and The Beast, Jr.

Register your child (ages 6-18) to experience the Branson Regional Arts Council’s exciting summer theatre camp at the Historic Owen Theatre in Branson. The theme is Beauty and The Beast Jr., with classes on Monday thru Friday, 8:00am – 12:00pm from June 6th thru June 26th. There will be a initial parent/student meeting on Friday, June 3rd from 6pm-7pm.

No auditions or previous experience required to participate!

Tuition for the entire session, including performances is $135 per student.

Based on the original Broadway production that ran for over thirteen years and was nominated for nine Tony Awards, and the Academy Award-winning motion picture, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast JR. is a fantastic adaptation of the story of transformation and tolerance. Disney’s Beauty and the Beast JR. features some of the most popular songs ever written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, along with new songs by Mr. Menken and Tim Rice.
The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed to his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.

Godspell Musical Opens March 31 At Historic Owen Theatre

The Branson Regional Arts Council proudly presents the immensely successful rock opera, Godspell, at the Historic Owen Theatre from March 31 – April 10, 2022. Performances are at 7:00 pm with 2:00 pm Matinees on Sundays. This promises to be an inspiring and entertaining production for all ages!

Based on the Gospel according to St Matthew, Godspell is the story of a small group of people help Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a wide variety of games, storytelling techniques and a hefty dose of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, is employed as the story of Jesus’ life dances across the stage. Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, Jesus’ messages of kindness, tolerance and love come vibrantly to life.

Godspell was the first major musical theatre offering from three-time Grammy and Academy Award winner, Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, Children of Eden); and it took the world by storm. Led by the international hit, “Day by Day,” Godspell features a parade of beloved songs, including “Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord,” “Learn Your Lessons Well,” “All for the Best,” “All Good Gifts,” “Turn Back, O Man” and “By My Side.”

HISTORIC OWEN THEATRE TICKETS

The BRAC production is directed by Jeremiah Reeve with musical director Kyle Denton. Choreography is provided by Jacob Deck.

The cast features Christian Ross (Jesus) and Alex Harris (Judas), along with Heather Stolfa, Haley Moore-Haskin, Sonya Godfrey, Claire Denton, Jacob Deck, Kayleigh Dominish, Katy Kohler, Loran Polson, Abby Reeve and Taryn Huffman.

The production team also includes Karie Dykeman and Kim Hale (Producers), Pamela Meadows (Lighting Director), Mac Hill (Technical Director), Cole Hill (Sound Technician), Jeremiah Reeve (Set Design), Lisa Murphy (Media Coordinator), Lorie Best (Volunteer Coordinator), Josh Silvy (Theatre Operations), Marshall Meadows (Photography), and Jim Barber (BRAC Executive Director, Marketing and Design).

The Branson Regional Arts Council will be holding open cast auditions for Something Rotten – A Very New Musical on Friday, April 15th and Saturday, April 16th at the Historic Owen Theatre in downtown Branson.

Time: 5:00-6:30 Dance Call each day of auditions. (Everyone who signs up for a singing slot must attend at least one day of the dance call. If you’d like to audition for a dancer only position please just let us know at check in.)

6:30– 9:30 pm Vocal Auditions (sign up for a time slot below. There will be 30 minute time slots for each group and 6 people will go in at a time.)

What to Bring: 60-90 second song in the style of the show. (Musical theatre rep only) Bring your own tracks (on your phone or player).

Also Bring: Printed headshot (if you have one) & Acting Resume (if you have one).

Clothing for Audition: You may wear dance attire to the auditions. Bring comfortable shoes you can dance in/character heels (ladies) if you have them, also if you have tap shoes, bring those as well.

Dance Requirements: Intense choreography including elements of Jazz, Tap, & Musical Theatre styles

Additional Notes: Rated Pg-13. Students in middle school/high school can audition with permission slip from parent/guardian. These will be “open auditions” – those who are waiting after dance call are welcome to sit in back of theatre and observe until they are called.

(Typically rehearsals will be Sunday – Thursday evenings from 6-9:30 pm with Fridays & Saturdays off)

Show Synopsis:
Welcome to the Renaissance and the outrageous, crowd-pleasing musical farce, Something Rotten. Set in the 1590s, brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are desperate to write a hit play but are stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rock star known as “The Bard.” When a local soothsayer foretells that the future of theatre involves singing, dancing and acting at the same time, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world’s very first musical. But amidst the scandalous excitement of opening night, the Bottom Brothers realize that reaching the top means being true to thine own self, and all that jazz. Something Rotten features large song and dance numbers, and a wacky cast of over-the-top characters, each given his or her own special moment in the show to shine. It’s become clear that “nothing’s as amazing as a musical,” so don’t miss your chance to be a part of this history-twisting tale on the BRAC stage!

Cast Description:

  • Shakespeare – The Bard. Over the top with a huge ego.
  • Nick Bottom – A struggling writer who cannot stand Shakespeare. Nigel’s older brother.
  • Nigel Bottom – Nick’s sweet younger brother. A struggling writer who falls in love with Portia, a Puritan.
  • Bea – Nick’s wife. She loves Nick despite his past lack of success. She dresses up like a man to prove she can be an actor.
  • Portia – A Puritan woman who loves poetry, theater, and ultimately Nigel.
  • Nostradamus – A soothsayer
  • Brother Jeremiah – Portia’s father. A Puritan who thinks Nick and Nigel’s plays are sinful.
  • Lord Clapham – A posh patron of the theater.
  • Shylock – An investor to whom Nick and Nigel are in debt.
  • Minstrel

About the Show:

Produced nationally and internationally, Little Women has been praised by critics for its ambition in adapting such a well-known story for the stage. This timeless, captivating story is brought to life in this glorious musical filled with personal discovery, heartache, hope and everlasting love. The original production starred the unparalleled Sutton Foster, who received Tony, Outer Critics Circle and Drama Desk nominations for her performance.
Based on Louisa May Alcott’s life, Little Women follows the adventures of sisters, Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy March. Jo is trying to sell her stories for publication, but the publishers are not interested – her friend, Professor Bhaer, tells her that she has to do better and write more from herself. Begrudgingly taking this advice, Jo weaves the story of herself and her sisters and their experience growing up in Civil War America.

Join us at the Historic Owen Theatre for an informational “Volunteer Rally” and find out how you can be an active participant in the Branson Regional Arts Council. We have a full slate of amazing events this year, and are looking for enthusiastic folks who love their community, and LOVE TO HAVE FUN!

What are your areas of interest? 

GUEST SERVICES
Greet our theatre patrons as they arrive for a production. Hand out our official Playbill programs, and assist with seating locations or other needs.

CONCESSION STAND VOLUNTEERS
Assist our patrons by serving up fresh popcorn, sweet treats and beverages from our historic concession stand before the show and during intermission. Duties include cashier, product display, popcorn making, cleaning, sanitization, and inventory tracking. BRAC will assist qualified food handlers in obtaining their required ServSafe Certification at our expense.

SET CONSTRUCTION, COSTUME & PROP BUILDING
Work behind the scenes to help build stage sets, props and costumes for upcoming productions. Previous experience not required, but is certainly beneficial.

CLEANING & SANITIZING
One of our most important volunteer positions… our cleaning crews sweep and vacuum the theatre after each performance, wipe down touchable surfaces in public areas with sanitized towelettes, remove all trash to the outside dumpsters.

STREET TEAM MARKETING
Help us connect to our community and spread the great news about our upcoming events and theatrical productions! We will provide the posters or flyers, and you will help us distribute them to participating locations in and around our community
