Audition Workshop Announced for Little Shop of Horrors

Why do some actors get cast in a stage production, while others don’t? Would you like to improve your audition abilities with one, fun afternoon workshop?

Preparation is crucial, and to help make the audition process easier, the Branson Regional Arts Council is presenting an Audition Workshop on Saturday, August 25, 2018 from 12pm – 4pm at the Historic Owen Theatre, 2015 S. Commercial Street, Branson, MO 65616. Registration fee to participate is $25, payable by credit or debit card, or check.

NOTICE: Actors must be at least 16 years old to participate.

Directors Jordan Alexander-Holt and Lloyd Alexander-Holt will teach you how to maximize your chances of landing that important role at your next audition for the hilarious Broadway musical, Little Shop of Horrors, coming to the Historic Owen Theatre in October. Class size is limited to the first 50 students who register.

The attendees will get a chance to workshop their vocal audition selection and receive vocal critique and feedback. All attendees will learn the audition choreography combination in advance as well.

This workshop is especially recommended for anyone Interested in auditioning for the Little Shop of Horrors musical (Performances Oct 25 – 28 and Oct 31 – Nov 4).

Art Class by the Glass Returns to Mount Pleasant Winery

The Branson Regional Arts Council is excited to announce return of a new painting event called “Art Class by the Glass,” to be held at Mount Pleasant Winery in Branson, Missouri.  This “Cork & Canvas” type event is scheduled for Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 3pm – 5pm.

The $30 registration fee (per person) includes all painting supplies and direction to create the “Starry Night” painting seen above, and one glass of wine, courtesy of Mount Pleasant Winery.  Additional wine servings available.

The class size is limited to between 10 and 20 participants, so early registration is recommended. Click here to register.

Legally Blonde the Musical at Historic Owen Theatre

A fabulously fun award-winning musical is coming to Branson’s Historic Owen Theatre this week for five fantastic performances. Legally Blonde The Musical, is based on the popular 2001 film by the same name. The story follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes and scandal in pursuit of her dreams. Action-packed and exploding with memorable songs and dynamic dances – this musical is so much fun, it should be illegal!

Performances are 7pm this Thursday, July 12 through Saturday, July 14, with 2pm matinee shows on Saturday, July 14 and Sunday July 15. Advanced reserved seating is recommended at BransonArts.org/tix or by calling 417-336-4255. This production is rated PG13.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Arrive 10 minutes before your audition slot.
  • Bring one copy of your head shot and resume.
  • Prepare two contrasting songs, 16-32 bars of each only. (Do not sing from Legally Blonde.) It is likely you will only be asked to sing one selection. But make sure you have a second in case the directors ask for it.
  • Accompanist will be provided. You may also use a track. If using our accompanist: bring a clean copy of your music in the correct key, preferably in a binder. Lead sheets will not be accepted.
  • If using a track: the music must be in a digital format. No CDs or tapes.
  • All interested MUST attend the dance call AND have a singing audition, unless otherwise specifically stated.
  • MUST be 16 years of age or older to audition. No exceptions. If cast, minors will need a signed parent/guardian consent form on file. Only actors over the age of 18 will be considered for the role of Elle.
  • Video/online submissions MAY be accepted. Please contact casting director for information.

Legally Blonde: The Musical Character Breakdown

Elle Woods (Gb2-G5 Soprano Belt) – Elle is a very bubbly college-age girl who follows her ex-boyfriend to Harvard Law School and realizes that she has more than just a pretty face and a bubbly personality to offer the world! She is very lovable, determined, vulnerable, energetic and outgoing! A true triple threat. Must be comfortable being kissed on stage, must be comfortable with dogs. Preferably 5’-5’7”.

Emmett Forrest (B2-A4 Tenor) – Emmett is a smart, quirky, sensitive and personable law student. He ends up taking Elle under his wing and believes in her when it seems that no one else does. Must be comfortable being kissed on stage, must be comfortable with dogs. A strong singer/actor with great comedic timing! Preferably taller than Elle.

Paulette Buonofuonte (A3-A5 Soprano Belt) – Paulette is the funny owner of a local salon. She becomes friends with Elle and longs to marry a man from Ireland. She and Elle help each other achieve their dreams! Must be comfortable with dogs, must be willing to be kissed on stage. Strong singer with a powerful belt to match the personality! Must play older than Elle.

Pilar, Margot, Serena (G#3-F5 Belt) – Pilar is the sassy and sensible sorority sister. Margot is the seemingly dim-witted, boy-crazy sorority sister. Serena is the energetic cheerleader, sexy, sorority sister. Margot, Serena, & Pilar are Elle’s entourage who follow her through the story acting as her “Greek Chorus”. Strong singers and dancers with good comic timing and youthful energy! Diversity preferred and encouraged!

Professor Callahan (A2-F#4 Baritone) – Callahan is a pompous and manipulative law professor at Harvard. Actor must be comfortable with a stage kiss. Callahan should be charismatic, but able to turn instantly into a conniving shark at the turn of a hat. Silver fox.

Warner Huntington III (Eb3-Ab4 Tenor) – Warner is attractive and charming, but very self-absorbed. He will do whatever it takes to achieve his dream of becoming a senator, including breaking Elle’s heart. Actor must be willing to perform a stage kiss, and very comfortable on stage to best display the characters’ charisma! Tall.

Vivienne Kensington (A3-F5 HUGE Soprano Belt) – Vivienne is an overachieving, stuck-up, wealthy, smart and savvy law student who is intellectually driven. Yet
she feels very threatened by Elle’s presence at Harvard. Must be comfortable being kissed on stage. Powerful solo in Act II! Needs to effectively contract Elle.

Brooke Wyndham (A3-G5 Alto or Soprano) – Brooke is an exercise video star and Delta Nu alum sorority girl who was accused of murder. Being physically fit is a must for this role, to properly do high level aerobics with enough stamina to continue singing.

Kyle B. O’Boyle (no vocal requirement) – Kyle is a physically fit, smooth-talking UPS deliveryman. We soon find out that he is Paulette’s dream guy. Must be comfortable with dogs, must be willing to be kissed on stage.

Enid Hoops (G3-G5 Soprano Belt) – Enid is a strong, opinionated, feminist law student at Harvard. Great comedic timing!

Elle’s Mom (C4 – E5 Alto) – High society socialite from Malibu.

Elle’s Dad (D3 – E#4 Baritone) – High society golfer from Malibu.

Kate (Bb3 – Eb5 Alto) – Delta Nu scholastic chair, the bookworm! Featured in “What You Want”

Sundeep Padamadan – A foreign Harvard law student. Former leader of his country. Featured in “The Harvard Variations”

Aaron Schultz – A smug and arrogant Harvard law student. Featured in “The Harvard Variations”

Dewey – Paulette’s rude, mean, dog stealing, trailer-trash ex-boyfriend.

Nikos Argitakos – Brooke Wyndham’s pool boy. Featured in “Gay or European”

Carlos – Nikos’ “best friend”. Featured in “Gay or European”

Grand Master Chad – frat boy. Featured in “What You Want”

Winthrop – Harvard Law admissions officer.

Pforzheimer – Harvard Law admissions officer.

Lowell – Harvard Law admissions officer.

Whitney – Vivienne’s best friend at Harvard law. Her father is next in line to be the Speaker of the House and Vivienne brags about it.

The Diary of Anne Frank at the Historic Owen Theatre

The Branson Regional Arts Council and Forte Theatrical Productions present, The Diary of Anne Frank, a play by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett.

Six public performances will take place at the Historic Owen Theatre on Sunday May 6th at 2pm and 7pm, Monday May 7th at 7pm, Sunday May 13th at 2pm and 7pm, and Monday May 14th at 7pm.

Cast rehearsal for The Diary of Anne Frank

This popular dramatic presentation is one of the most famous and haunting stories to emerge from the 20th Century. The memoirs of this young Jewish girl, forced to hide for nearly two years to escape Nazi persecution, are an essential part of how we remember one of the darkest periods of our human history.

For nearly two years, Anne, her father, mother, and sister, joined with the Van Daan family, to hide in a secret annex space above her father’s former office in Amsterdam, as the Nazis deported the Jews of Holland to their deaths. In her secret attic, Anne comes of age: she laughs, plays, fights with her mother, and falls in love for the first time.

In spite of her oppressive circumstances and the horrors that surround her, Anne’s spirit transcends, as she voices her belief, “in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart.” Anne’s dynamism, her luminous spirit, and her story of resilience continue to resonate deeply, making her story as vital today as when her diary first was published.

Forte’s production of The Diary of Anne Frank is produced by Tina Cool Anderson, and directed by Justin Ables.Cast members included Emily Homburger as Anne Frank, Tom Hallet as Mr. Frank, Ariel Jenkins as Miep, Charis Boulden as Mrs. Van Daan, Perry Harper as Mr. Van Daan, Stephen Baker as Peter Van Daan, Mary Huff as Mrs. Frank, Abigayle Wilcox as Margot Frank, Ian Lahlum as Mr. Kraler, and Josh Boulden as Mr. Dussel.  Costumes are designed by Kristen Ables, and Matthew Noll is the Stage Manager.

The Branson Regional Arts Council presents, Anything Goes, a 1934 musical with music and lyrics by Cole Porter. The story concerns madcap antics aboard an ocean liner bound from New York to London. Billy Crocker is a stowaway in love with heiress Hope Harcourt, who is engaged to Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. Nightclub singer Reno Sweeney and Public Enemy #13 Moonface Martin aid Billy in his quest to win Hope. The musical introduced such songs as “Anything Goes”, “You’re the Top”, and “I Get a Kick Out of You.”

The high energy dance musical features a cast of 25 actors, and will be presented at the Historic Owen Theatre, 205 S. Commercial St., Branson, MO 65616.

The Branson Regional Arts Council production of Anything Goes is Produced by Kim Hale and Lisa Murphy. The show and music is under the Direction of Lloyd Alexander-Holt, with Choreography by Kristen Dasto.

Leading actress Kristen Dasto models one of the show costumes generously donated by State Park Marina.

Principal cast members of Anything Goes include: Kristen Dasto (Reno Sweeney), Melissa Rivera (Hope Harcourt), Jacob Estes (Lord Evelyn-Oakleigh), Bryan Miller (Elisha Whitney), Kyle Bradley (Billy Crocker), Sean Neil Myers (Moonface Martin), and Kellsey Howerton Bradley (Erma).

Supporting cast include: Haley Bertrand (Evangeline Harcourt), Alex Knudsen (Luke), Noah Beyer (John), Robert Montgomery (Captain of the S.S. American), and Alex Harris (Purser).

The Angels are played by: Dani Groff (Purity), Ezrah Noelle (Chastity), Mary Kim (Virtue), Carly Vanderpluym (Charity), and Callie Altepeter (Angel Swing).

Additional character roles include: Alex Harris (Fred, the bartender and FBI Agent), Jordan Alexander-Holt (Henry T. Dobson), Dylan Pratt (Reporter), Alex Knudsen (Reporter), Mindy Martin Law (News Photographer), Noah Beyer (FBI Agent), and Carrie Orlando (Ensemble).

The ship’s crew and Male Quartet dancers include: Alex Harris, Jordan Alexander-Holt, Noah Beyer, and Alex Knudsen. The Sailor Tappers are performed by Jordan Alexander-Holt, and Lloyd Ray Alexander-Holt.

Finally, to round out this extremely talented cast, playing the Ship’s Passengers/Dancers Blow, and Gabriel Blow are: Alex Harris, Jordan Alexander-Holt, Lloyd Alexander-Holt II, Noah Beyer, Alex Knudsen, Robert Montgomery, Mindy Martin Law, Velvet Case, and Callie Altepeter. Reno and her Four Angels are portrayed by: Carrie Weatley Cassavitis, Haley Bertrand, Megan Rodgers, and Carly Vanderpluym.

Invitation To Artist Reception at Branson Convention Center Gallery

The Branson Regional Arts Council invites the public to attend a FREE Community Event, this Friday (April 13th) from 7-9pm at the Branson Convention Center Art Gallery on the 2nd level concourse. 

Join in celebration of 12 area artists, featuring dozens of new works now on display at the gallery. Featured artists include: Kwaku Addai, Glenda Roberson, Jane Parker, Galina Nikiforova Foulconer, Raine Clotfelter, Jim Tindall, Mary Arneson, Dee Giles, Marty Goodnight, Alpha Morrow, Thia Schuler, and Meadows Images.

The Branson Convention Center Gallery is about to begin it’s 3rd season and has been visited by approximately 100,000 people annually, according to General Manager Marc Mulherin. Several of the current featured artists will be attending the reception to discuss their work, and members of the Branson Regional Arts Council Board will be there to answer any questions. Refreshments will be available as well.

Auditions For Anything Goes This Week At Historic Owen Theatre

The Branson Regional Arts Council announced last week, that auditions for the 2nd major musical of the year will take place this Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (March 14-16, 2018) evening from 6pm until 9pm at the Historic Owen Theatre, 205 S. Commercial Street, Branson, MO 65616.

Anything Goes is set aboard the ocean liner S. S. American, where nightclub singer/evangelist Reno Sweeney is en route from New York to England. Her pal Billy Crocker has stowed away to be near his love, Hope Harcourt, but the problem is Hope is engaged to the wealthy Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. Joining this love triangle on board the luxury liner are Public Enemy #13, Moonface Martin and his sidekick-in-crime Erma. With the help of some elaborate disguises, tap-dancing sailors and good old-fashioned blackmail, Reno and Martin join forces to help Billy in his quest to win Hope’s heart. – Broadway.com

Following the completely sold out run of Annie the Musical, the bar has been set a bit higher for this production, but Show Producers Kim Hale and Lisa Murphy are up to the challenge, as well as Director Lloyd Alexander-Holt and Choreographer Kristen Dasto.

Casting auditions are open to actors, singers, and dancers ages 15+, sorry, there are no child roles in this production.

WHAT TO BRING
Each performer needs to prepare a one minute, uptempo and ballad vocal selection. They should also please bring sheet music in the appropriate key, or provide CD accompaniment tracks. No acapella singing will be allowed. All actors should be prepared to stay for the dance call toward the later portion of the audition schedule.

Dancers, please come prepared to do a jazz and a tap combination. Appropriate dance footware, ie Jazz and Tap shoes, is suggested. Ladies if you have character tap shoes, please wear them. NO BARE FEET.

Rehearsals will be each Sunday-Thursday from 6-9pm at the Historic Owen Theatre. Saturday rehearsals will be held from 12pm-6pm on April 7 and April 14, Tech Week begins April 21-25. Performances are April 26, 27, 28 at 7pm, and April 28 and 29 at 2pm.

Performers who are unable to attend these auditions are invited to send a video audition link to info@bransonarts.org no later than 9pm Central this Friday, March 16th.

Public performances of Anything Goes will be April 26-29th at the Historic Owen Theatre in Branson. Reserved tickets are expected to go on-sale on this website before Monday, March 19th.

Ventriloquism Workshop with Jim Barber Announced

Have you ever wondered how ventriloquists like Darci Lynn (America’s Got Talent) and Jeff Dunham (Comedy Central) are able to “throw their voices” and make their puppets talk clearly without moving their lips? Well here is your chance to participate in a fun and educational ventriloquism workshop at the Historic Owen Theatre in Branson, Missouri.

Professional ventriloquist Jim Barber has agreed to personally teach this course as a fundraiser benefiting the Branson Regional Arts Council.

The workshop will be held over 3 Saturdays in March 2018, for a total of 9 hours of intensive education and technical training.

Jim will not only share his personal vocal techniques that he developed over his successful 40 year career, but he will also include an intensive overview of the official Maher Ventrilquist Studios Course of Ventriloquism, which has launched the careers of thousands of ventriloquists around the world since 1934.

Inclusion of this course is made possible by professional ventriloquist Tom Crowl, who owns and operates the famous Maher Studios.

ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR:

Jim Barber’s unique blend of comedy, ventriloquism, and vocal music have taken him around the world as a featured entertainer for International corporate events, major cruise lines, and as host of USO shows for our military families stationed across the United States and in the Mediterranean.  Based in Branson, Missouri, Jim is now the Executive Director of the Arts Council and will be appearing in his own show at the Shepherd of the Hills Attraction in a remodeled, indoor theatre this summer. Throughout his career, Jim has shared stage and toured with many celebrities including Glen Campbell, The Osmonds, Tony Orlando, The Bellamy Brothers, Jim Stafford, Eddy Rabbitt, Yakov Smirnoff and many others. His unique act has been featured on many national television shows including the Late Show with David Letterman. Jim also serves as an advisor for Vent Haven Museum in Ft. Mitchell, KY. Vent Haven is the world’s largest museum dedicated to the art of ventriloquism.
