Emma! A Pop Musical Opens Next Week At Historic Owen Theatre

The Branson Regional Arts Council’s Staccato Performance Troupe presents Emma! A Pop Musical for five exciting performances from Thursday, March 30 to Sunday, April 2, 2023.

The production is Rated G | General audiences. Showtimes are 7pm (Thursday, Friday, Saturday) and 2pm (Saturday, Sunday).

All tickets for this production are only $12 (Adults & Youth), with lap children (age 4 and younger) admitted free of charge. Advance reserved tickets are recommended and on sale now at BransonArts.org/tix or by calling the box-office of the Historic Owen Theatre at 417-336-4255.

Emma! A Pop Musical loosely follows the storyline of Jane Austen’s 1815 novel, Emma, but incorporates a 21st century prep school twist. Emma Woodhouse, portrayed by Renee Elkady, considers herself to be Highbury Prep’s top matchmaker after she sets up two of her teachers. She then tries to set up her best friend Harriet Smith (Liya Rivere), with school president nominee Philip Elton (J. Perry) and herself up with rockstar Frankie Churchill (Dylan Whatley). Meanwhile, the arrival of a new potential student and heiress, Jane Fairfax (Abby Wheeler), stirs up controversy. Emma’s relentless matchmaking plans take an unexpected turn, and Harriet ends up with the ‘commoner’ lunch busboy Martin (Jason Prince), while Emma ends up with the power-focused schoolboy Jeff Knightley (Pace Gillman). 

The storyline of the production is woven together with a string of hit songs by legendary girl groups and iconic female singers from The Supremes to Katy Perry. Girl power has never sounded so good!

The cast of 14 talented performers also features Jordan Porter as Ashley, Melinda Prince as Miss Bates, Megan Rogers as Miss Taylor, Hallie Groff as Ronnie, Ashley Rogers as Estelle, Lundyn Mitchell as Elaine, and Alivia Prince as Nedra.

Director Jacob Estes leads the production in addition to being choreographer, adding one more credit to his long list of acting and directing achievements on behalf of the Branson Regional Arts Council. Jacob has also performed at Kings Castle Theatre, Silver Dollar City, The Welk Resort, Sight and Sound Theatre, and on tour nationally with Forever Young.

Stage Manager Dimitri Tsahiridis makes his BRAC debut with this production. Dimitri is a student at Branson High School, and has done technical work for such shows as The Curious Savage and Mamma Mia!. He is adding to his portfolio to gain working experience in all aspects of theater before going to college, where he will major in theater and eventually reach his lifetime goal of directing.

Staccato Performance Troupe is an advanced show choir for area youth between the ages of 12-18 that combines a challenging music repertoire with entertaining choreography, on-stage acting, and stage performance. Through the training season, members work towards a common goal while studying advanced music theory, vocal and physical warm ups, musical theatre vocal techniques (belting, mixing, telling a story), stage etiquette, hip hop, jazz and musical theatre dance. Open auditions for new Staccato members are held each Fall, and under the direction of Jacob Estes, the students focus on elevating their “triple threat” skills and applying their formal training into a lively musical theatre presentation such as this production of Emma! A Pop Musical.

Crescendo Youth Theatre Troupe 2023 Auditions Announced

Calling All Kids Ages 7-12!!! Come audition to be a part of Crescendo /krəˈSHenˌdō/!

The Branson Regional Arts Council is gearing up for the return of an exciting educational youth performance troupe featuring children who love to sing, dance and act!

BRAC’s Crescendo Audition Info:

  • AUDITION: Thursday, January 26, 2023 from 4:00pm – 5:30pm
  • Historic Owen Theatre (205 S Commercial St, Branson, MO 65616)
  • Class Schedule: Thursdays 4:00pm – 5:30pm
  • Class Dates: February 2 – April 27, 2023

     

    Members of Crescendo will meet on a regular basis (see class schedule below) and will be presenting two public performances of an exciting musical at the Historic Owen Theatre, April 28-29.

    Crescendo: “Meaning growing, as in swelling of sound, or becoming louder.”

    Students will have fun developing their performance skills in the areas of voice and dance, while gaining new friendships, skills and increasing their confidence.

    The students will learn and perform under the direction of their talented and qualified instructors Jacob Deck and Julie Brinkman.

    Additional Audition Notes:

    Those auditioning will be asked to sing a cut from a song of their choice, no longer than a minute. Karaoke or mp3 track preferred, but a cappella is also welcome.
    There will also be a short movement call at the end of the singing portion of the audition. Everyone is encouraged to wear clothes that they can move in. Jazz shoes or tennis shoes preferred.

    Everyone’s favorite practically perfect nanny takes the stage in this Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious musical adventure presented by the Branson Regional Arts Council at the Historic Owen Theatre!

    One of the most popular Disney movies of all time is capturing hearts in a whole new way: as a practically perfect musical! Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the classic Walt Disney film, Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins delighted Broadway audiences for over 2,500 performances and received nominations for nine Olivier and seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
    The jack-of-all trades, Bert, introduces us to England in 1910 and the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic and common sense, she must teach the family members how to value each other again. Mary Poppins takes the children on many magical and memorable adventures, but Jane and Michael aren’t the only ones upon whom she has a profound effect. Even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that “Anything can happen if you let it.”

    Puffs

    Dates: March 17 – 26, 2023 (6 shows)

    Puffs is a play for anyone who ever felt like they weren’t the hero in their own story!
    Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic is a 2015 original play by New York-based playwright Matt Cox. The comedy is a parody as presented from the perspective of the “Puffs”.
    This clever and inventive play “never goes more than a minute without a laugh” (Nerdist) giving you a new look at a familiar adventure from the perspective of three potential heroes just trying to make it through a magic school that proves to be very dangerous for children. Alongside them are the Puffs, a group of well-meaning, loyal outsiders with a thing for badgers “who are so lovable and relatable, you’ll leave the theater wishing they were in the stories all along” (Hollywood Life). Their “hilariously heartfelt!” (Metro) and epic journey takes the classic story to new places and reimagines what a boy wizard hero can be.

    Nunsense – The Mega Musical

    Dates: May 11 – 21, 2023 (8 shows)

    Nunsense, is a popular musical revolving around eight nuns, one Revered Mother and one Father. These however, are not your normal nuns, but self-proclaimed “fun nuns,” who are faced with financial issues after losing 52 of their fellow sisters to food poisoning caused by the infamous Sister, Julia Child of God.
    The musical is portrayed as a “fundraiser” towards the audience, as they attempt to raise the money they need to bury the remaining four nuns, who are currently being kept in the freezer of the Mount Saint Helen’s Catholic Middle School in Hoboken, New Jersey.

    High School Musical JR (BRAC’s Summer Youth Institute)

    Dates: June 22 – 25, 2023 (6 shows)

    Disney Channel’s smash hit movie musical comes to life at the Historic Owen Theatre in Disney’s High School Musical JR. This BRAC Summer Youth Institute production will be a summer favorite for kids and adults alike.
    NOTE: The 7pm shows are the older kids (13-18) and the 2pm shows are the younger kids (6-12)
    It’s the first day after winter break at East High. The Jocks, Brainiacs, Thespians and Skater Dudes all find their cliques. Basketball team captain and resident jock, Troy, discovers that the brainy Gabriella, a girl he met singing karaoke on his ski trip, has just enrolled at East High. The couple cause an upheaval when they decide to audition for the high school musical. Although many students resent the threat posed to the “status quo,” Troy and Gabriella’s alliance might just open the door for others to shine as well.

    Monte Python’s Spamalot

    Dates: July 27 – Aug 6, 2023 (8 shows)
    PG13 | Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13.

    Lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, MONTY PYTHON’S SPAMALOT retells the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, and features a bevy of beautiful show girls, not to mention cows, killer rabbits, and French people. Did we mention the bevy of beautiful showgirls? 
    The 2005 Broadway production won three Tony® Awards, including Best Musical, and was followed by two successful West End runs. The outrageous, uproarious, and gloriously entertaining story of King Arthur and the Lady of the Lake will delight audiences as they search for the Holy Grail and “always look on the bright side of life.”

     A Midsummer Nights Dream           

    Dates: Sept 8 – 17, 2023 (6 shows)

    Rated PG-13

    The Branson Regional Arts Council’s production of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream is the magical story of star crossed lovers, overly ambitious homespun clowns and misadventures with the fairies. The fun can be multiplied by mixing and matching the male/female roles.
    The action begins at the beautiful court of Theseus, Duke of Athens, and later moves to the mystical forest inhabited by Oberon and Titania, king and queen of the fairies. And don’t forget Puck fairyland was never like this!
    If you saw the Shakespeare in the Park production, you’ll love this indoor version on the stage of the Historic Owen Theatre.

     

    The Addams Family

    Dates: Oct 19-29, 2023 (8 shows)

    Rated PG-13

    THE ADDAMS FAMILY, a comical feast that embraces the wackiness in every family, features an original story and it’s every father’s nightmare: Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family– a man her parents have never met. And if that wasn’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before– keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents.
    In the kooky, upside-down world of the Addams Family, to be sad is to be happy, to feel pain is to feel joy, and death and suffering are the stuff of their dreams. Nonetheless, this quirky family still has to deal with many of the same challenges faced by any other family.
    This musical is Rated PG-13. Parental guidance is suggested due to adult innuendo, profanity, and scenes containing comical torture.

    Our Holiday Winter YouthTheatre production of Disney’s Finding Nemo JR, brings the beloved animated tale to the live stage with a talented cast of young performers!
    This is a 60-minute musical adaptation of the beloved 2003 Pixar movie Finding Nemo, with new music by award-winning songwriting team Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. Marlin, an anxious and over-protective clownfish, lives in the Great Barrier Reef with his kid Nemo, who longs to explore the world beyond their anemone home. But when Nemo is captured and taken to Sydney, Marlin faces his fears and sets off on an epic adventure across the ocean. With the help of lovable characters such as optimistic Dory, laid-back sea turtle Crush, and the supportive Tank Gang, Marlin and Nemo both overcome challenges on their journey to find each other and themselves.
    Featuring memorable songs such as “Just Keep Swimming,” “Fish Are Friends Not Food,” and “Go With the Flow,” Finding Nemo JR. brings a vibrant underwater world to life on stage in a story full of family, friendship, and adventure.

    The Branson Regional Arts Council proudly presents it’s 2022 Crescendo Youth Performance Troupe production of A Year with Frog and Toad KIDS, featuring a cast of talent young actors between the ages of 7-12.

    Two public performances will be held at the Historic Owen Theatre on Friday, December 16th – 7pm and Saturday, December 17th – 2pm.

    General open seating with a suggested $10 Donation at the Door to benefit the BRAC Youth Education Program. (Advance reserved seat tickets will not be sold for this event.)

    Adapted from the three-time-Tony-nominated Broadway hit comes A Year with Frog and Toad KIDS. Based on Arnold Lobel’s well-loved books, the jazzy, upbeat score bubbles with melody. Part vaudeville, part make-believe, and all charm, A Year with Frog and Toad KIDS tells the story of a friendship that endures throughout the seasons.

    This whimsical show follows two great friends – the cheerful, popular Frog, and the rather grumpy Toad – through four fun-filled seasons. Waking from hibernation, Frog and Toad plant gardens, swim, rake leaves, go sledding and learn life lessons along the way. Throughout the year, two best friends celebrate and rejoice in the differences that make them unique and special.

    As a bonus… Crescendo will also present some Holiday themed music in addition to the theatre production.

    This is a great show for kids of all ages and the entire evening of fun is expected to run approximately 60-75 minutes.

    Frozen JR Will Be A Hot Family Show This December

    The Branson Regional Arts Council proudly presents a Winter Holiday Youth Production of Disney’s Frozen JR at the Historic Owen Theatre with eight spectacular performances this December.

    Directed by Kyle Bradley, the production features a cast of 37 talented young actors from across the Ozarks. Families and patrons of all ages will have a great time at this enchanting musical.

    Shows run Thursday (7pm), Friday (7pm), Saturday (2pm & 7pm), and Sunday (2pm) from December 1 – 11, 2022.

        Cast auditions for the December 2022 Branson Regional Arts Council production of Disney’s Frozen JR. will be held Friday August 26th or Saturday August 27th at the Historic Owen Theatre in downtown Branson.

        The queen possesses a sense of rightness and kindness that guides her in her protection of her two young girls. A daughter of the Northern Nomads,this queen has the ability to communicate with the Hidden Folk of the mountains and so understands Elsa’s powers deeply; look for an actor who can portray this sense of compassion.

        Pabbie

        Kristoff
        Kristoff is a hardworking ice harvester. Kristoff has a sarcastic veneer and a rough-around-the-edges exteriorthat hides a big heart. Taken in by the Hidden Folk when he was young, he loves Pabbie and Bulda dearly, butis a bit of a loner with a reindeer for a bestfriend- until he meets Anna. With only a few short singing solos, focus on casting a performer who can balance a cynical sense of humor with charming banter.

        Sven
        Sven is a reindeer of few words, fiercely loyal palto Kristoff, and loves giving the ice harvester a hard time. Look for a performer with good comic timing and terrific physical acting skills who can devise a strong movement vocabulary to bring this furry charmerto life. Consider auditioning potential Svens and Kristoffs together as the two should share a visible bond.

        Hans
        The ambitious Prince of the Southern Isles and overlooked thirteenth son of a king. Hans constantly strives to find a way to make good and stand out. He boasts an exceedingly charming facade that fools everyone -including Anna and, ideally,the audience!-into believing he’s Prince Charming, when really, he’s just a jerk. Cast an actor who can play both sides of this two-faced prince with relish as well as confidently sing the moments of harmony in “Love Is an Open Door.”

        Weselton
        A visiting duke who possesses a huge inferiority complex. A bombastic, overbearing sycophant, Weselton’s sole purpose is to hobnob with influencers and royalty. Look for an actor who can portray the narrow-minded naysayer with over-the-top gusto.

        Olaf
        The magical snowman created by Anna and Elsa when they were young. Olaf is endearingly delighted by everything – especially the idea of summer. Goofy and sweet, Olaf should possess a childlike innocence and excellent comic timing.

        Oaken
        An exceedingly cheerful and convivial wandering salesperson and ardent devotee to all things cozy and comfortable. Oaken’s “Hygge”is a showstopper, so cast an actor who can portray the peppy peddler’s infectious warmth with flair and good humor.

        Beauty and The Beast JR opens at Historic Owen Theatre

        A “tale as old as time,” will be presented on the stage of the Historic Owen Theatre in downtown Branson as Disney’s Beauty and The Beast JR. opens for six public performances from Thursday through Saturday, June 23 – 26, 2022.

        The Branson Regional Arts Council’s Summer Youth Theatre Institute production features a large group of 71 talented young actors between the ages of 6-18, who have been training for nearly three weeks to present this family favorite musical. Divided into two casts, they will be creating unforgettable memories that will not only improve their talents and self esteem, but also carry through positive qualities to other aspects of their lives.

        Based on the original Broadway production that ran for over thirteen years and was nominated for nine Tony Awards, and the Academy Award-winning motion picture, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast JR. is a fantastic adaptation of the story of transformation and tolerance. Disney’s Beauty and the Beast JR. features some of the most popular songs ever written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, along with new songs by Mr. Menken and Tim Rice.

        The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed to his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.

        2022 BRAC Summer Youth Theatre Institute Open For Registrations

        The 2022 BRAC Summer Youth Theatre Institute is now accepting students for it’s production of Disney’s Beauty and The Beast, Jr.

        Register your child (ages 6-18) to experience the Branson Regional Arts Council’s exciting summer theatre camp at the Historic Owen Theatre in Branson. The theme is Beauty and The Beast Jr., with classes on Monday thru Friday, 8:00am – 12:00pm from June 6th thru June 26th. There will be a initial parent/student meeting on Friday, June 3rd from 6pm-7pm.

        No auditions or previous experience required to participate!

        Tuition for the entire session, including performances is $135 per student.

        4th Annual Staccato Show Choir Winter Holiday Showcase Concert

        Branson area residents are invited to enjoy a special, one-of-a-kind Holiday Showcase Christmas Concert featuring the young talented members of the Branson Regional Arts Council’s Staccato Show Choir.

        The 4th Annual Winter concert will take place on Monday, December 6, 2021 at 7:30pm at the Historic Owen Theatre in downtown Branson. All seats are $10 and proceeds benefit the BRAC Youth Education Fund, which provides performing opportunities for area youth between the ages of 8 and 18.

        Staccato Show Choir is an energetic advanced musical group that combines a challenging music repertoire with entertaining choreography. The choir focuses on elevating and applying its formal training into lively, breath taking “show” style performances. Students meet at the Historic Owen Theatre and study advanced music theory, vocal warm up, stage etiquette, presence and showmanship, as well as multi-part choral music.

        The choir is directed by Jacob Estes, with vocal direction by Delyla Uebel.

        Staccato Show Choir Announces Auditions For Singer Dancers Age 12-18

        The Branson Regional Arts Council is seeking new talent for the 2021-2022 Staccato Show Choir.

        Do you love to sing and dance? Perform live concerts and public events? Want to travel? Then this is the place for you!

        We are looking for at least 20 singers and dancers between the ages of 12-18 to represent the Branson Regional Arts Council for their 2021-2022 performance and competition season.

        Staccato is an advanced show choir focusing on many different styles of music (Pop, Musical Theatre, Classical, Jazz..etc) under the direction of Jacob Estes and Delyla Uebel.

        Please note this is an advanced level, fast paced group. During our season we will learn a full 20-30 minute competition set, as well as several other songs for concerts and events. We also have opportunities during the year for solo pieces, and small ensemble numbers. We desire committed individuals who will work hard.

        Staccato Audition Information:
        Video auditions are requested for the first singing round, then if you pass, you will be called to a live dance audition at the Historic Owens Theatre.

        • Submission songs must be no longer than 90 seconds.
        • Please no a cappella singing
        • Sing a song in one of the following styles (Pop, Musical Theatre, Classical, Jazz)
        • In the video, please say your full name and age
        • Audition submission deadline is Friday, July 23, 2021

        Annual Tuition
        There is an annual tuition ($405 per student) that assists BRAC in our educational instructor, sheet music, music licensing, and other expenses throughout the season. Selected students will be presented with complete details and scholarship opportunities may be available for qualified students.

        Additional Information
        Staccato Show Choir is an energetic advanced musical group intended to combine challenging music repertoire with entertaining choreography. The choir will focus on elevating and applying its formal training into lively, breath taking “show” style performances.

        Students will study advanced music theory, vocal warm up, stage:etiquette, presence & showmanship and multi-part choral music. The directoral leadership will be both demanding & rewarding. The time at rehearsal will be run in a serious “conservatory master class” style meaning from the moment the students enter the theater until they leave the theater… training is in process.

        The directors will lead incredibly intensive rehearsals that will result in mind-blowing results and outstanding performances. Students chosen to participate in this choir will gain invaluable vocal training, meaningful friendships and treasured memories for a lifetime.

        Participation in the choir is at the sole discretion of the directors.

        Show Choir Performances typically include: Fall Concert, Winter Showcase & Spring Concert. Additional community performances may be added throughout the year.
        Formal coordinated hair/make up styles & attire will be required for performances.

        Show Choir members will be invited on an optional year-end performing trip opportunity that will be an additional cost above the annual tuition. Fundraising will be available. More details will be provided in August.
